Turns out that in Texas a single marijuana brownie could land you with a 2nd degree felony--minimum 2 years in prison. Two reasons why this happens. One is that THC extracts from marijuana plants are considered a different controlled substance in Texas, as shown in this article. In this category of illegal substance, the weight ranges of the drugs result in greater penalties than the marijuana group. Second, and probably more serious, reason is that "adulterants" are INCLUDED in the weight of the drugs seized. So, sugar, chocolate, and all other brownie ingredients are treated like marijuana. It's madness!!
