THC Oils

Honey Oils

Lots of solvents can extract oil from resin leaves and some work better then others, how well these solvents work depends on certain chemical properties and how pure it is, one chemical property that is a major factor in a chemicals performance is POLARITY molecules will be "polar, slightly polar or non polar" generally the polarity of the solvent will determine what it is able to dissolve.

Like dissolves like,

polar solvent will dissolve polar molecule

non-polar solvent will dissolve non polar molecule

The solvents

Butane
-non polar
-makes "honey oil"
-very fast process
-easy to find
-expensive
-extremely flammable
-may contain unwanted additives

Hexane
-non polar
-makes "honey oil"
-inexpensive
-skin irritant
-slow process
-very flammable

Methanol/Methylalc
-moderately polar
-dissolves THC and plant fibre
-makes black/green oil
- easy to find, inexpensive
-flamable

Alcohol/isopropanol
-Mostly polar
-dissolves THC and plant fibre
-makes black/green oil
-easy to find, inexpensive

Water - 100% Polar

The plant material

THC OILS = Non polar
Chlorophyll = Polar

Hexane will produce the cleanest oil as this only dissolves THC, alcohol dissolves both Chlorophyll and THC making your end product a lot darker, green or even black.
