    2 questions so far. How to test pH? Is soil a good medium? (We compost so it's mostly our own).

    I bought one of those 3-n-1 testers but it is worthless so I bought a digital soil pH meter and it works well. I think soil is a great medium. That's why I'm using it. Composting is perfect, but you do need to make sure you are giving cannabis everything she needs. I used a "super soil" recipe cut down to the size of my small operation. For a simple one google "subcool super soil recipe" and look for the high times article. I made a 1/2 batch and it filled three 32 gal garbage cans. adjust according to your needs or use your compost and add amendments to the soil. I am brand new at this (my first grow). Emylia is a great resource for soil related matters. She uses a LOS (living organic soil) which includes critters like worms. My signature (at the bottom of every post I make) has a link to her "How to properly water a plant" or whatever it's called lol. All I did with my soil was to take a base potting soil and add several things, mix them together, and let it compost (now going on 7 weeks). If you are doing a small grow you can do a 1/4 sized batch. Just divide every amount by 4 and mix. I like soil because you just have to water and there is little to no worry about pH if you get the soil in the right ballpark up front. No measuring pH or adding nutrients or any of that. Plant the darn thing and water it and watch it grow. Simple, but with arguably the best results in quality and close to the yields of hydro at the least. Some people who know what they're doing just compost everything from ingredients in their kitchen and garden. Ask on your post for advice and you'll have it in spades (haha, punny).

    Wow. That is great to know. My husband is old school, grew up on an island. There was no fancy stuff for gardening. I have just been following his lead. I don't even have a tent yet, just winging it. Lol. I have a wish list going. As budget goes I knock some stuff off the list. The tent will definitely help my lighting.
