always best to change all your bulbs in the house to cfl or leds, this helps offset the difference, unplug devises not in use.most folks don't know if its plugged in and not in use its still drawing power.

in order for co2 to be beneficial your environment has to be perfect, lots of lumens.
I would say as newbie you should get everything going for a while before you attempt co2. we all take our bumps on the head when we start, no sense in wasting all that c02 in the process. good luck buddy...
