Federal authorities working at the port of entry discovered 1 1/2 tons of marijuana with a street value of $3 million inside a tractor trailer hauling auto parts.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested the driver, Jose Refugio Sanchez-De la Rosa, 22, on federal drug charges Tuesday. The driver, a Mexican citizen from Nuevo Laredo, was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, officials said.

Officers at the World Trade Bridge sent the 1994 tractor trailer for a secondary examination. They noticed black plastic bundles on top of the merchandise. An imaging system indicated abnormalities, and a dog alerted officers to marijuana in the shipment, Customs and Border Protection said.
