LAREDO, Texas - Agents seized more than four tons of marijuana from tractor-trailers crossing the World Trade Bridge from Mexico, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency said Wednesday.
Both seizures occurred Tuesday, after drivers were asked to go through drive-through scanners.
In the first, 7,278 pounds of marijuana valued at $7.2 million were found mixed in with a load of ladders in a 1993 Freightliner tractor.
Jorge Charles-Walle, 30, of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, was arrested on a federal charge of importation and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Later that day, agents found 872 pounds of marijuana hidden in a shipment of scrap metal in a 1994 International tractor. No arrests were made. The incident is under investigation.
