El Paso sheriff's deputies said they arrested a man Thursday after finding 1,153 pounds of marijuana in his van.

About 5:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies observed a white 1994 Ford Econoline 350 van parked on the road obstructing traffic in the 100 block of Elvira Way in West El Paso.

A man standing in front of the van began walking away, and deputies stopped him and asked if he needed assistance in removing the van from the road, the sheriff's office said.

The man, Noe Trinidad Miranda-Castillo, 33, and the deputies began pushing the van off the road, and deputies noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A search found 100 large plastic wrapped bundles of marijuana in the cargo area, the Sheriff's Office said.

Miranda-Castillo was charged with possession of marijuana and remains at the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $150,000 bond.

This case remains under investigation.

Come on team, let's get it together.

>1000 pounds in a junker van and when it breaks down, we don't have the sense to pull to the curb, or better yet walk away if we can't make the curb. We are going to stand in front of the freakin thing until the fuzz come a sniffing.

This is natural selection at work

I thought the load was excessive, until I saw it was a 350.

Damn, why are we wasting tax money on dogs. The cops seem to have pretty effective noses.

By the way, abandoning the load is a sure way to get the van searched.

Id spend the next month or so making hash. Then I'd spend the next few months in a smoke filled room.
