The first medical marijuana dispensary in Yavapai County is set to open this week in Chino Valley.

Organica Patient Group President R.J. Alarcon tells the Prescott Daily Courier that the dispensary could open as early as Wednesday.

Arizona voters approved medical marijuana by about 4,300 votes in 2010, authorizing its use for cancer and certain other medical conditions.

More than 35,000 people in Arizona have medical marijuana cards.

Yavapai County has more than 2,400 cardholders.

Alarcon says his company will get its marijuana through another dispensary at this time, since the owners haven't decided whether to open their own growing facility.

A marijuana growing facility already is in the works in Chino Valley to provide medical marijuana to a few dispensaries in the Phoenix area.
