A Progreso couple is facing drug charges after a more than $2 million drug bust in Cameron County.

Cameron County sheriff's deputies pulled over the driver of a tractor trailer on Orphanage Road near Combes on Saturday for expired plates.

The trailer was hauling a load of fruit, but officials said that's not all it was carrying. Authorities found more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana, valued at about $2.5 million, hidden in the load.

The driver and his wife were arrested. They are expected to face a judge Monday.
