FORT PIERCE – A Stuart man authorities say was an accomplice in the Hobe Sound marijuana-growing operation allegedly run by Kobie Gary pleaded not guilty Friday to a trio of federal drug charges already filed against Gary and two co-defendants.
Federal prosecutors in court said they added two more drug charges against David Jeffrey Grant, 26, who on Monday was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute at least 100 marijuana plants.
Other charges include the manufacture and possession with intent to distribute more than 100 marijuana plants, and conspiracy to maintain a place for growing marijuana.
The offenses stem from a criminal investigation that ended with Gary's Oct. 27 arrest near a Mulberry Drive home in Hobe Sound where authorities seized 213 pot plants and related equipment. Grant's fingerprints were lifted from two light tubes that were part of an elaborate lighting system seized after Gary's arrest.
Co-defendants include Scott Gibson of Stuart and Hobe Sound resident Stephen Shepherd, who has already pleaded guilty in the case. Each face up to 40 years behind bars if convicted.
