Brewer: 'No Change' On Medical Marijuana Program

Arizona sheriffs want Gov. Jan Brewer to hold off on implementing the medical marijuana program's next stage, but they're being rebuffed.

The Arizona Republic reports that 13 of the 15 county sheriffs told Brewer in a letter that government employees could face federal prosecution. That follows a similar request by most county attorneys.

However, Brewer spokesman Matthew Benson says there's "no change" regarding the state's implementation of the voter-approved medical marijuana law.

State officials on Tuesday are set to award nearly 100 dispensary licenses.

Brewer went to court to seek a ruling on whether federal law bars Arizona from implementing the medical marijuana law, but a federal judge dismissed that suit. A state judge ruled in another case that Arizona must implement the law's provisions for dispensary licenses.
