Livermore - The City Council is moving toward dropping its ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.

After an informal discussion on Monday night, the City Council decided to continue working toward drafting a policy in 2017 to allow at least one dispensary to open in an industrial to sell medical marijuana.

Before a final policy is adopted, the council said it wants to have one or two workshops early next year to hear what the public thinks about the details.

Among the issues to determined are whether to license more than one dispensary in the city, how much cannabis to allow in a store at one time, and whether to allow a licensed dispensary to deliver pot to home-bound patients, and to allow limited amounts of marijuana to be grown on site.

Workshop dates are yet to be determined.
