Cadillac Could Extend Moratorium On Marijuana Businesses

Tonight, the Cadillac City Council could decide to extend the city's moratorium on medical marijuana establishments.

A Cadillac official says inquiries about opening dispensaries have all been about downtown locations. He says the Downtown Development Board doesn't think dispensaries are consistent with the character of that district.

There are similar moratoriums in place in several towns across northern Michigan, as the legality of buying and selling the drug through dispensaries remains unclear.

In other places, such as Traverse City, dispensaries are open for business despite a court ruling in August. The Court of Appeals ruled state law does not allow for the sale of medical marijuana.
