Charcoal filters - How good are they?

I installed it before the New Year but after Christmas and it's still working great. I have the grow tent 32x32x63 in my bed room and you know how some rooms can have like a stale air smell, well not only dose it keep my tent fresh it also got rid of that stale smell in the room because of the negative pressure in Tent so bonus !!!

How often do you guys clean your pre filter? Mine seems to plug up with dust in a matter of a few days...never realized my tiny apartment was so dusty....or it could be the "vent" in the kitchen ceiling that God knows where goes to. I think it's venting between the floor beams?

The ducting below that is from the microwave and goes outside. I have a feeling my landlord doesn't know what he's doing.....I'm going to pull that "vent" down and put a flat piece of carbon filter between the wood and metal "screen"
