On the second episode of BaltBizCast - the Baltimore Business Journal's podcast - I sat down with two executives at Chesapeake Health Sciences.

Chesapeake Health Sciences has applied to be a grower, processor and dispenser of medical marijuana in Maryland.

The state opened up applications to handle medical cannabis in 2015 when the drug was legalized for medicinal uses. Since then, the state has received over 800 applications. Maryland will be able to give out an unlimited number of processor licenses, but is restricted to awarding early-stage approval for up to 15 grower licenses and 94 dispensary licenses across the state. Receivers of those licenses are expected to be notified by the end of July.

Despite heavy competition, Chesapeake Health Sciences is confident it'll be given all three licenses.

Aaditya Goswami, president, and Dr. Allen Tien, chief medical officer, spoke to me on the podcast about the process of applying for a license, the potential problems of finding real estate and banks willing to work with medical marijuana companies and the results of Chesapeake Health Sciences' research.
