Among the policies and policy-related changes approved by the Pueblo City Schools (D60) Board of Education during its Aug. 11 special meeting was a new policy allowing the administration of medical marijuana to qualified students.

The policy reflects recent passage of a bill directing Colorado schools to allow such administration.

Per the board's policy, administration to qualified students - those who hold a valid license and for whom the administration of medical marijuana cannot reasonably be accomplished outside of school hours, by doctor's orders - will be conducted by a primary caregiver, a parent/guardian over the age of 18.

The only permissible forms of medical marijuana are "nonsmokeable products such as oils, tinctures, edible products or lotions that can be administered and fully ingested or absorbed in a short period of time."
