Two West Coast men are facing marijuana trafficking charges after they were stopped in North Aurora for failing to pay a toll.
At 8:15 a.m. Friday, Kane County sheriff's deputies stopped a Chevy Impala that had exited Interstate 88 at Route 31 in North Aurora, the sheriff's office said. The driver of the Impala had failed to signal a lane change at the off ramp and didn't pay the 60-cent toll at the exit, police said.
Police stopped the car and determined that the two men were traveling from the West Coast to Chicago with 60 pounds of high-grade marijuana in the trunk, police said.
Driver Pablo Galeana-Rueda, 34, of Aberdeen, Washington, and passenger Jose Hernandez-Calderon, 40, Santa Rosa, Calif., were both charged with felonies marijuana trafficking, delivery of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana and possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana, police said. Because the marijuana was high grade, police estimated the value at $1 million.
Bond for each man was set at $1 million. Both men are being held on immigrations holds, police said. Both men are scheduled to be in court Jan. 26.
