A multi-department task force seized $27 million in marijuana from a truck traveling through west suburban Franklin Park, authorities said today.

Members of the Will County Cooperative Police Assistance Team, a task force made up of FBI, Illinois state police, and three suburban police forces, seized the three tons of marijuana on a truck about 11 a.m. Friday in the 3900 block of Mannheim Road in Franklin Park, authorities said in a news release.

Authorities also recovered a handgun and ammunition but made no mention of arrests or criminal charges.

Authorities learned of the drugs after the truck had previously been seen in nearby Stone Park, officials said.

Chicago area police departments, working with federal authorities, have made a number of large marijuana busts in recent weeks, including two incidents late last month where more than a ton of marijuana was seized.
