Derby - School officials have suspended 15 students after investigating the smell of marijuana coming from a bathroom at Derby High School.

Police responded to the school at 9:38 a.m. Tuesday after a marijuana smell was reported in the building.

Police spokesman, Officer Joseph Madura, said the school's youth officer investigated and arrested three female students. Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson said the girls and another 12 students connected to the incident were all suspended.

This includes a 15-year-old boy who, according to the three arrested girls, sold them the marijuana, Robinson said Wednesday.

Robinson said that, as part of a zero-tolerance policy, school officials can suspend any student whose behavior, on or off campus, is considered highly disruptive or illegal.
