Death Sentence Imposed on Medical Cannabis Patient

New Zealand - The Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party's candidate in the Botany by-election, Leo Biggs, is calling on Judge Neave to show compassion in the case of a Timaru cancer patient to be sent to jail for using medical cannabis.

Peter Davy appeared before the court last Tuesday on charges surrounding the cultivation of medical cannabis where Judge Neave told him to "prepare for jail" at sentencing.

However, if sent to jail, Mr Davy has vowed to go on hunger strike and abstain from his cancer medicines until he dies as a protest against the persecution of New Zealand's medical cannabis users.

Jailing Mr Davy will also mean a death sentence for his partner, who suffers from advanced multiple sclerosis.

Judge Neave only reluctantly bailed Mr Davy until sentencing so that he could arrange to sell all their belongings and pay for her to die slowly in a rest home.

In light of the continued suffering of Mr. Davy and so many others, ALCP's Leo Biggs is calling on the Government and Police to enact an immediate moratorium on arrests of medical cannabis users.

It is high time that New Zealand's unjust, hypocritical, and in this case deadly cannabis prohibition laws are reformed.

Why must the World jail people on account of a plant? If they try to jail me, I will go to the hearing, and get bail, and be gone. I won't go to jail for my medicine. I would rather be a fugitive. That's my protest. Wrong? Maybe. But I know it's not. Man's laws hold nothing for me, when the government spends my tax dollars on wars and actions contrary to the Constitution of America. When the state of Florida makes people "volunteer" to obtain their rightfully owned Unemployment. (They want to, a bill is trying to pass). When the government can legalize THC for sale, i.e. Marinol, via a patent, yet people cannot grow their own medicine? But though federally illegal, the gov. obviously is selling Marinol at $1000 a pill for cancer patients. What? yeah. So the heck with that. I want to cuss a blue streak about this, but anger.....useless.

Marijuana - class 1 drug.

Cocaine - class 2 drug.

That about drives me nuts. Ours laws are so effed up. Only the rich do not have to spend time in prison.

I am ready for a revolution. How about you?

:bravo: I have to pat Peter Davy on the back for making this difficult decision. Standing up for what he believes is right will keep the focus not just on him, but also his partner and all those of New Zealand who need medical cannabis. If he ran, they would say he did so because he knew he was doing something wrong and it would be just about him instead of the need for medical cannabis. Its just really sad that we're forced to make these decisions at all.:peace:
