Canadian Government has given the role of gate keeping to doctors when it comes to medical marijuana. With this, the policies with regard to give permission to citizens for growing medical marijuana will change by April 1, 2014.
It has now been unveiled that the sole responsibility to prescribe marijuana has been given to doctors. The Canadian Medical Association has cited the decision to be difficult for doctors.
CMA president Dr. Louis Francescutti said that they are well aware as why the government has taken such a decision. As per Dr. Louis, the government does not want to get stuck in the problem. For this, they have chosen doctors to handle the problem.
However, such is not the case, affirmed Jeannine Ritchot with Health Canada. Ritchot was of the view, "The simple fact is that you can't grow or produce your own narcotic medications, so in moving this way we are treating marijuana on the same plane that we do treat other drugs".
But it seems that Dr. Francescutti has some strong points to put forth. He was of the view that marijuana has not been tested and clinical trials are not been done. So, it will get very difficult for them to prescribe medical marijuana to patients.
