Medical marijuana was a crowd pleaser at the Santa Cruz Film Festival.
Nevada County first-time filmmakers Charlie Hall and Bevin Bell-Hall won the Audience Award for Best Documentary for "La Vie en Verte," which explores the Wo/men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana (WAMM).
"It was an amazing experience to hear an audience collectively gasp, laugh and cry at the film," Hall said. "After the screenings, people came up to us to tell us about their loved ones who either used or refused to use medical marijuana to treat their chronic and terminal illnesses and about their experiences as caretakers."
"La Vie en Verte" is French for "Life in Green."
"We hope that winning the Audience Award will mean that the film will have a greater chance to be screened at more festivals and in more communities, so that we can continue to share WAMM's remarkable stories," Hall added.
The 2010 Santa Cruz Film Festival featured 133 films, attracted 4,300 attendees and ended Saturday, May 15.
