Sen. Rob Bradley (R-Orange Park) is taking the lead revamping the state's existing but undeveloped medical marijuana program. Thursday the measure passed its final committee before the Senate floor.

A handful of state lawmakers have called for a broader marijuana policy that includes higher THC levels - the chemical compound that makes users feel high. Sen. Bradley isn't one of them. He wants to roll out the existing law before making changes. But Thursday he left the door open just a bit for further talks.

"Right now, we're postured for the floor," he says, "and I expect those decisions to be ongoing between my fellow senators and our friends in the house."

In recent committee hearings, many have argued THC is important for cancer patients using the drug. The bill was also amended to include autism as a valid condition for treatment, but a proposal to expand the pool of eligible growers failed.
