Former boy band star Nick Lachey is an investor in the plan to legalize medical and recreational marijuana in Ohio. Lachey, a Cincinnati native, joins current and former professional sports figures, a fashion designer and businessmen in the investment pool backing ResponsibleOhio.

The campaign is in the field now to collect more than 306,000 signatures from registered Ohio voters by July 1 to get the proposed constitutional on the November statewide ballot. The campaign is expected to spend more than $20 million to collect signatures and try to win over voters.

ResponsibleOhio identified 10 sites controlled by its investors where marijuana could be legally grown and packaged. It would also establish a Marijuana Control Commission to regulate the industry.

"Ohio is my home, and as a resident and local business owner I am proud to be part of a movement that has the potential to create jobs, reinvigorate the local economy and improve the safety of our communities," Lachey said in a written statement. "Passage of this proposal will result in much-needed economic development opportunities across Ohio, and update the state's position on marijuana in a smart and safe way."

Lachey is the former front man of 98 Degrees, which sold more than 10 million albums. He has also starred in "Newlyweds" on MTV and now hosts a VH-1 show called "Big Morning Buzz Live Hosted By Nick Lachey."

Lachey splits his time between his homes in Cincinnati, Los Angeles and New York.
