Found my phototron in storage!

I very much understand the tendency to keep plants growing in veg too long.

My inclination is to think that I have to let plants get pretty big in veg before 12/12 so that they can produce large buds.

I really didn't believe my plants would double in size in bloom, and I heard it over and over again in these forums.

Now that I've seen that flowering stretch a couple of times, it should make it easier to 12/12 plants when they're shorter than I think they should be.

hey man looks very very good n there do they still sell trons and how much. Cause I think that perfect for a newb like me and love the ufo look ffromthe lights +rep for sho got me one of those

You have a PM!

Heh, you made me laugh man! Now you understand first hand what the plants will do in early flower and will never forget it! Hard earned experience is truly valuable. Some day in the future, you can point out this to some new up and comer.

Knowledge, pass it on ...

.... but pass that joint back over here! :grinjoint:

First off i must say this is one of the coolest ways to set up a tron. It seems like alot more people are taking them out again +rep

About keeping them short they should be close to done growing from the looks of it and the LED's can be right ontop of them before you will even start to have any issues. If you want shorter plants they need to be topped so that they will grow more like a bush then a tree.

:thanks:
I seem to be getting 1/2 to 1" of growth a day the past few days (maybe more). :peace:

I had the exact same height problem with my greenhouse grow and tying and bending my plants down worked very well. .

i think this will be my option even with the limited space. :thanks:

I was just reminded in another thread about Humboldt's "Bushmaster" that is very effective at stopping vertical growth. It's definitely not a very "organic" solution, but it seems to work well.

hmmm, gonna try and investigate exactly what ""not a very "organic" solution"" really means. Anyone have experience with this stuff? My main reason for going with my particular organic recipe was flavor. The old familia recipe taste so good, i'm trying to replicate it. Not trying to open up a organic/chemi debate here or anything, just curious if you can taste the stuff in the smoke? Thanks for the info SS, i'll look into it.

:thanks: Sir! Yes, the trons are still available, but IMHO, way over priced with only a handful of their issues resolved in the newer versions. I would check ebay and craigslist for a much better deal, then search here for some great cheap upgrade ideas for them. Lots of fun for a "on display grow chamber", yet easily hidden depending on your particular situation.
Also, please keep in mind, I don't believe LED's are a phototron option yet, so if you want those, you will have to buy them seperate. Good luck, and thanks for stopping by!

now that I can do Sir. Reach up North here, quick before she burns away. :ganjamon: :thanks:

I believe Bushmaster is something that alters the plant's growth hormones chemically, so that's what I meant by "not organic".

I'm not a hardcore organophile, so that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me as long as it was safe, but I thought I would mention it.

It's not something you would taste in the final product.

ok, so about 9 days into flowering, and little hairs are beginning to form. I thought I would snap a few before lights out so you all could see. Thanks for looking!

Looking fantastic man! How many led's are in your ufo? and how many of each color? I have been thinking of getting one but im not sure what size i want yet and would only be using it to veg.

HELP!!!

ok, so I had an excellent update with some very nice bud porn, then about 20 minutes ago came the emergency!

I overloaded my phototron extra light plug for about one second and the whole machine shut off and wont come back on for anything. Please, if anyone has an answer, let me know asap! My girls are getting confused.

thanks in advance for any help.

You probably tripped a breaker or a GFI outlet on your house. Check your electrical panel for a tripped breaker, and if you have GFI outlets (they have a reset button on them) check those and reset them if they tripped.

Plug something else in to the same outlet the phototron is on to check whether something on the tron blew (which I doubt) or whether something in your house's electrical circuit tripped.

theres a three amp fuse in the side of the ballast. pain in the ass to get to after everything is tied in place, but an easy $1.25 fix once it is open. I'll post more once she's back together. thanks for the input SS!

Glad you figured it out and that it's a cheap fix, if not easy.

I posted in my journal about the accuracy of the "Cooler Guys" power supply/thermometer.

Mine seems to read about 1.5 F degrees high, which isn't a problem for me.

Nice fan/ps mod. I had the factory side fan panel in mine and it didn't do anything. Your fans are bigger. To deal with heat in my phototron i simply strapped a 20" box fan ($12) to the top. This drew air in from the bottom and out the top. I like your fan though. BTW, did you need special drill bits to drill the lexan?

Glad you got it fixed we were worried there for a minute!

I was wondering about those factory panels, just couldnt justify the price. I used a holesaw for plastics, and yes, it got away from me on every attempt and left gouges and scratches all over hell. Pissed me off each time, so I went ahead and ordered some precut sheets of polished aircraft aluminum for the smaller inserts and was planning on mounting all my fans to those as well as maybe some finned heatsinks on the outside of them between the fans. I have 2 more of the thermaltake 120mm to install between grows if I remember, or have time. Back in the day (20+ years ago, we used the exact smae 20" cube fan your talking about, but ours was just sitting on top facing up backed into a closet corner. If memory serves me, it worked very well. Thanks for the kind words! :thanks:

I was quite relieved to see that little fuse actually there, and blown after untieing all my girls, and ripping that machine apart. At least it wasnt the ballast. I am not the first here to say that the location of the phototron ballasts ,is one of many fatal flaws piraponics has yet to correct in there machines. I will holesawe a little hole where the fuse is located near the ballast on the bottom side of the tron, and screw on a little trap dood for access next time this happens. Its just left about an inch of where the cord comes out if anyone is wondering. :thanks: for your concern Joe! :peace:

Thanks to those of you still on board, I am pleased to say the buds are beyond my expectations for a fluoro/led grow. IN a tron with no real drainage ta boot! Heres a few updated pic for you all to critique for me. :thanks:

Oh, your plants are really looking great. Too bad you may be picking out lady bugs from the buds. I have a thrips issue in my tent for the past few weeks and I'm avoiding the lady bugs.

oh I hope not, I would rather smoke mites and mite eggs than mitecides. I thought I heard somewhere that spider mites living on MJ are pretty much made up of MJ themselves. I mean u r what u eat right? Anyway, I dont see any mites or eggs, and believe she is mistaken. Good luck on the thrips issue. Could be worse right? :smokin: Oh, and thank you for the kind words regarding my plants sir! :thanks:

ok, so i am 1 month 3 days into flower and the highest top is about 2 to 3 inches from the led. The led will go no higher, sooo, please please tell me they are done vertically. If they stop going up and start getting fatter, i'll be in fine shape. But if they keep going up, i'll either need to lift the lid, or bend them down, and they dont seem to like bending much. so IDK...

anyway, i'll post a few pics of the girls almost halfway done with 12/12 in a couple hours. Constructive criticizm and good advise is greatly appreciated. I dont know what I would do without ya'll, thank you so much for attending! :surf:
