Fresno County Supervisors OK Pot Grow Prohibition

Fresno County supervisors approved an emergency ordinance this morning banning outdoor medical-marijuana cultivation in unincorporated areas.

The ordinance will last 45 days while county officials come up with a permanent ordinance on the growth of medical marijuana.

Supervisor Henry Perea said he proposed the ordinance because of recent violence over pot plants in Fresno: four shootings, one fatal.

While county officials still need to confer about how to enforce the emergency ordinance, anyone growing marijuana outdoors would need to remove the plants to comply with the law, County Counsel Kevin Briggs said. Authorized users of medical marijuana can grow the plant indoors, he said.
