Heating pad for germination

anyone ever hear of using a heating pad or plate to heat the seeds during germination?

They can help but are not needed. Top of the fridge or TV/cable box or any place warm and dark will work just as well.

A friend of mine who has been growing for a while suggests putting the seeds in your grow box with the light on, which makes sense since the temps you want for germing are very close to the temps you use for growing. I recently germed some seeds with paper towels, tubberware + air tight lid and this method and got taproots in less than 36 hours.
