How quickly can sex be identified?

I have some books on growing that easily shows a male versus female plant. However, none of them specifically note how soon the pollen sacks or pistols become visible once the plant sprouts.

What have you experienced or heard?

It varies by strain and to some degree plant to plant. I had a couple show sex within a week of going 12/12 and some that took more than 3 weeks.

Male pre-flowers show when the plant is 6 to 8 weeks old after the forth week of growth. Of course they are easier to tell after 12 hrs of darkness has been set but if left in veg state, male flowers will still show. You should know within 2 weeks or less for sure after flowering has been introduced. Remember, once a male flower shows, it can be within 24 hours that pollen is released. If you do not want females pollenated, get the males out.
