CANTON - The St. Lawrence County marijuana crop took a massive hit
Wednesday as law enforcement officials harvested and destroyed up to
80,000 plants.

The harvest covered most of the northern part of the county, Sheriff
Gary J. Jarvis said. Areas targeted for harvesting were based on tips
and on observations by law enforcement personal, he said.

Agencies involved in the harvest included the county Drug Task Force
and sheriffs deputies, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents and
members of the National Guard, Mr. Jarvis said.

The plants - between 75,000 and 80,000 - filled 7 dump trucks, the
sheriff said. All plants were destroyed.

No arrest were made Wednesday and, Mr. Jarvis said, he is not yet
certain whether any will result from the eradication effort.
