Americans for Safe Access-Illinois (ASA-Illinois) strongly supports the Medical Cannabis Advisory Board's decision to approve eight debilitating conditions that were not originally included in the Illinois Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act.

The Medical Cannabis Advisory Board consists of some of the most respected physicians, pharmacists, nurses and patient advocates in Illinois. The decision was not taken lightly to add the eight additional conditions including Autism, Chronic Pain Syndrome, Chronic Post-Operative Pain, Chronic Pain due to Trauma, Intractable Pain, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Osteoarthritis and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The board considered the benefits, looked closely at the scientific evidence, and heard testimony from many potential patients suffering from these ailments.

Including these serious conditions to the program would provide access to a medicine that is safe and in many cases more effective than prescription drugs offered today.

ASA-Illinois implores Illinois Department of Public Health Director Nirav Shah to approve the eight conditions recommended by the Medical Cannabis Advisory Board by the required deadline of Feb. 1, 2016.
