Indiana lawmakers have not legalized marijuana, but they have spent time defining it. Both the Indiana Senate and House passed a measure to legalize the cultivation and production of industrial hemp. It now awaits the governor's signature. However, it would only make a difference if the federal government moved to end its prohibition on hemp. Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant, cannabis, but hemp does not have the intoxicating effect. Officials from an Elkhart company testified on behalf of the bill. Flexform uses a variety of fibers to create auto parts. Right now, the company gets its hemp from other countries. Ten states have legalized industrial hemp.
