leaf fingers

I notice some variation of finger counts on leaves from different strains. is there some reason why some plants have 5,7,or 9 fingers? I've got a 5 fingered version of some purple strain that just came up north from Cali last month and all I know is that it's a purple indica dom.

Don't know. I have three types of strains growing, and they all started with 1, then 3, 5, 7, 9, and now I got a couple that have 11 fingers. I think it just has to do with the health or growing strength of the plant.
