Baltimore - Officials are looking to make it easier for people who've used marijuana in the past to become police officers in Maryland.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the commission that regulates hiring in Maryland has recommended that the state relax a rule regarding past marijuana use for prospective officers.
Under the current state policy, people cannot become officers if they used marijuana more than 20 times in their lives, or five times since turning 21 years old.
The Police Training and Standards Commission wants to lift the lifetime limit. It is recommending that only those who have used marijuana in the last three years be disqualified.
The public will now get a chance to weigh in on the proposal. It must also pass legal review and be approved by top state officials.
