Charges are pending for a local homeowner after deputies knocked on his door, and smelled a "distinct odor" of marijuana when his son opened up.

According to a Hernando Sheriff's Office report, officials visited the home on the 4000 block of Black Oak Trail because of an investigation already underway on Wednesday.

The owner of the home, Darren Burns, was out of town, but his 16-year-old son was there to greet deputies at the door, along with a smell of marijuana strong enough to warrant a search inside.

However, before going in, officials say they spoke with Burns over the phone, and he admitted to having marijuana in the home, and even told them where they would find it.

Once inside, detectives say they found about three-and-a-half pounds of pot, along with various drug paraphernalia and drug cultivation items- which lead them to believe Burns previously grew marijuana in the home.

As of now, officials say multiple charges are pending.
