Paris Hilton was detained for possession of marijuana in the South African city of Port Elizabeth Friday.
She is expected to appear in court on drug-related charges.
Hilton, 29, was caught with an unspecified amount of marijuana during the Brazil vs Netherlands quarterfinal match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. She was escorted by police shortly before 8 p.m., according to reports.
Earlier in the evening, Hilton appeared to be in fine spirits.
"Had so much fun at the game today," she wrote. "What a match! I love South Africa!"
A short time later, she added, "It's so beautiful here. I can't wait to go on the Safari this week and see all the amazing animals."
In a 2007 interview with Larry King, Hilton famously denied ever using drugs.
"Have you ever been addicted to drugs?" he asked.
"No," she replied.
She also said "no" when he asked if she's ever experimented with drugs.
