"Stinky Steve Explains Medical Marijuana" is a 12-page full color children's book explaining to children why adults use medical marijuana and how to stay safe when someone they love uses cannabis for medical reasons.
We've been able to pay an illustrator, a gifted local artist with a great vision, but we need to raise funds for printing supplies and marketing.
Our $1,500 goal will allow us to purchase a printer, ISBNs, ink, Michigan-made recycled paper and cardstock, binding and paper cutting supplies and our other rewards, and to build a website for Stinky Steve. If we don't meet that goal, more of the overall funds will go to rewards, and we will probably have to hire a printer instead of printing the first edition in-house, though we will still hand-bind them in house.
Our perks include the only way to order first edition copies of "Stinky Steve Explains Medical Marijuana." It will be printed on high-quality, recycled paper and cardstock made in Michigan, and hand-bound with hemp. If you love Stinky Steve as much as we do, you can also find organic cotton t-shirts (to be printed here in Michigan), hoodies, and some really great perks for those who want to support Stinky Steve and his future marijuana safety titles!

As medical marijuana has gained traction in its spread across the United States, reports of children being affected by medical marijuana are increasing in the media. Accidents do happen, but are less common when children are informed honestly about their loved one's medical marijuana.
Stinky Steve is something very much needed in today's culture: an age-appropriate advocate for childhood cannabis safety. Kids who don't understand medical marijuana may have complicated and unpleasant feelings about their parent's marijuana use based on what they hear in school or on television. Open, honest conversations are the only way to dispel their worries.
Stinky Steve is here to help facilitate these important conversations between caregivers and the children they love about a difficult and complex topic. This issue was something we've seen personally, working as caregivers and activists in the Michigan medical marijuana community. There are many medical marijuana patients who are also wonderful parents, but many of them struggle to explain marijuana, its medical benefits, and most importantly, how to stay safe if there is medical marijuana in the house.
It is our hope that with proper education, accidental childhood marijuana poisonings can be made a thing of the past. Education, not prohibition, is the key to ensuring safety for everyone.
