Should Medical Marijuana Patients And Caregivers Fear Arrest After DEA Agents Raid

The seizure of plants, growing apparatuses, usable marijuana and other marijuana-derived products from a home owned by two Saginaw County medical marijuana providers – one who is also a patient – during a Drug Enforcement Agency raid Tuesday generated 91 comments on three separate but related posts by Wednesday evening.

On Tuesday DEA agents raided the Thomas Township home of Stephanie Whisman, 38, and her fiancé John F. Roberts, 49, both medical marijuana caregivers.

Some comments supported the federal government's stance that the production and use of marijuana violates federal law and supersedes the state law passed in November of 2008.

"...The Michigan medical marijuana law was a scam inflicted on Michigan voters. First it was in conflict with federal law which supersedes any state laws. Next those "care givers" grow the maximum permitted marijuana without evaluating the amount of marijuana needed by each patient. There is a significant lack of paperwork to document how the marijuana is actually dispensed..."

Comments from electrified supported the states' rights regarding the issue of passing medical marijuana laws.

"...The reason states have been pushed to the point of having to pass their own laws in this case is because the feds have done nothing but obstruct any attempt to even so much as study the issue. There are reasons too numerous to list here detsiling the opposition put forth by the feds as well as the rationale behind each of them. If you want to see a "scam," then study up on the greatest scam ever perpetrated on the American public - marijuana prohibition," electrified commented.

Roberts and Whisman claim to have been operating within the limits established by the state law, and when sheriff's deputies and federal agents searched the premises using a state warrant on April 15, they did not confiscate the couple's grow equipment or plants.

Should medical marijuana users and producers across the county and state fear federal intervention because they are violating federal law or is this case an exception to the rule?
