Two Medford men remain jailed in Siskiyou County following a weekend drug bust in which police found 457 pounds of marijuana in two cars, officials said.
Gilberto Dominguez Aguilar, 22, and his cousin, Santiago Rodolfo Aguilar, 23, were arrested at 4 a.m. Sunday on a rural section of Salmon River Road in western Siskiyou County, said Siskiyou County sheriff's spokeswoman Susan Gravenkamp.

Sheriff's deputies saw the Aguilars' tan-colored Honda sedan speeding along the road and tried to pull over the vehicle, along with a second car. The Honda skidded to a stop after a deputy blocked it with his patrol vehicle, police said.

Deputies discovered the car's rear compartment and trunk filled with marijuana plants and bags containing the illegal plants.

Three occupants of the second vehicle, a red Mitsubishi sedan, ran and hid in a wooded area before police had a chance to apprehend them. The Mitsubishi was also filled with marijuana, police said.

Altogether, police seized 457 pounds of marijuana and more than $600 cash from the vehicles.

Deputies later located and arrested Jesus Paris Avendado, 19, of Yreka, who is believed to have been an occupant of the Mitsubishi, police said.

Avendado and the Aguilars are all being held in the Siskiyou County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana for sale and possessing concentrated cannabis. Bail is set at $25,000.

Gravenkamp said detectives are investigating whether the marijuana grow in western Siskiyou County is connected to a larger operation.
