The House Health and Human Services Committee advanced a bill authorizing limited use of cannabidiol oil to treat epileptic seizures.

Sioux Falls Doctor, and State Senator, Blake Curd, says the evidence is mounting that CBD oil provides relief. Curd says if there was no evidence that CBD oil wasn't beneficial drug companies would stop researching it. He says they're pouring money into research and development.

Rapid City Representative Kristin Conzet told families seeking the oil's relief that there are 39 states which allow its use.

Conzet says no one wakes up in the morning and says they're going to be an alcoholic or take black tar heroin. Conzet says she's a firm believer that the effort could become a gateway for some, but not for the children in South Dakota whose family's are treating them with CBD.

The committee vote was seven to six to send the measure to the House floor.

It already passed the Senate.
