Today I called my local hydro store & told him about the gnat problem. He suggested that I could try to put a thin layer of sand to suffocate the gnats. Just for the record I went out to Home Depot & bought a bag of sand. I added a thin layer of it on 2 of small veg plants & then I thought hold up wait lets go to the forum & see what the pros say about this.

I've done it before and tried it, it tends to sink into the soil after waterings.

Alternatives would be to use DE (diatomaceous earth) or an organic root drench such as the SNS-203 SNS 203 Soil Drench Spray | Sierra Natural Science

I really thank you guys for your input. I'm on it in the morning. Since Home Depot is down the street I'm gonna start with the diatomaceous earth & then I will order the soil drench from Natural Science. By the way Relaxed Lester good looking on the awesome website.
