Oregon - An Oregon State Police trooper arrested two men the last day of 2009 after finding they had about 50 pounds of marijuana.

A news release from OSP spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said OSP Sgt. Larry Graves stopped a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer eastbound on Interstate 84 near La Grande for a traffic violation.

The driver was Gerald Solomonson 45, from Connecticut, and the passenger was Philip J. McCarthy III, 28, from Massachusetts.

During the stop, Graves found about 50 pounds of marijuana in three large bags in the vehicle. Hastings said the marijuana is worth about $125,000.

A Union County deputy and an OSP drug detection dog assisted with the seizure and arrest of the two men.

Solomonson and McCarthy are facing felony charges of possession, delivery and manufacture of marijuana.

Police booked the pair into the Union County Jail in La Grande.

OSP Drug Enforcement Section detectives are continuing the investigation.
