NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- A man wanted in Vermont for 12 years for conspiracy to manufacture marijuana has been caught in Canada, apparently given up by a bum bike light.

Aaron Goon, 37, was stopped by Toronto Police Services on Nov. 11 for riding his bicycle without lights, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations office announced this weekend.

A records check revealed that Goon was wanted under a U.S. federal warrant out of Vermont, and authorities also determined he was living in Canada illegally, according to U.S. Customs.

The Canada Border Services Agency on Friday notified U.S. officials at the Rainbow Bridge crossing that Goon was being removed from Canada.

Customs and Border Protection agents confirmed through fingerprints that the man in question was the person wanted in Vermont under a nationwide no-bond warrant issued in May 1999, authorities said.

The Vermont State Police arrested Goon in June 1998 on charges of conspiracy to manufacture marijuana. He told authorities he entered Canada shortly after the arrest and has lived there ever since, Customs and Border protection said.

Goon has been turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service and is awaiting extradition to Vermont.
