Id bge careful in trusting ANY enity, even a state entity, if they calim the feds will not go after you for growing under their name or permit. Marijuana is ILLEGAL to cultivate in the united states, according to the federal government. Only government sanctioned science experiements and projects are legaly mandated by the feds to grow, and that's a process that could take years to get permission for.
In fact, if memory serves me correctly, Steve (cant remember if that was his first name or not) Kubby, who was also licenced by the state, was still covnicted in court for growing marijuana. In fact, again, if memory serves correctly, he wasnt allowed to mention his state sanction in his federal trial to the jury.

I'm getting my info from this article and site.. good reading. The other reason to have this ID is that it allows you to have acccess to their dispencery. This ID will also get 4 visits/year to stores in Vancouver, BC (I visit there a bunch) and I believe Compassionate Care Givers in Oregon (where my son lives).. neat little thing to know for Prop 215 people who travel alot.

The Compassionate Use Act of 1996 allows seriously ill people to legally grow and use cannabis as medicine. In order to qualify under California law, a patient must have a doctor’s recommendation. A doctor may make a recommendation for any condition for which cannabis provides relief.


1. Ask your regular doctor for a recommendation:

Be forthright with your doctor. There is nothing wrong with using medical cannabis or discussing it with your doctor. A federal court has ruled that doctors may not be punished for recommending medical cannabis.

§ Be prepared to tell your doctor specifically what condition or symptoms you treat with cannabis. Honestly describe the amount of cannabis you use, how often, and by what delivery method.

§ Ask for a written recommendation. Although an oral one is acceptable, it is difficult to verify. If your doctor will not issue a recommendation, you may need to visit a medical cannabis specialist.


2. Medical cannabis specialists:

There are a number of California physician clinics available for medical cannabis consultations. Patients should already have a documented medical record of diagnosis and treatment or a physician referral. You can find a listing of some at http://www.canorml.org. Be aware that:

§ You should take your medical records with you to the appointment.

§ It generally costs more than $200 to see a medical cannabis specialist.

§ Paying the money does not guarantee that you will get a recommendation.


3. Get an official ID card:

Under a new law, SB 420, the state health agency is required to set up a voluntary medical cannabis ID system, however this will not be in place before the end of 2004. Although medical cannabis patients are not required by law to have such an ID, it may be helpful in law enforcement encounters. Furthermore, most cannabis dispensaries will not let you join unless you have an ID card. There are 2 places in the Bay Area that issue these cards. It usually takes 24 hours for them to verify your doctor's recommendation and produce the card, and both charge a fee of $25.

4. Registering at a cannabis dispensary:

Under recent federal court rulings, individual patients and caregivers in California are protected from federal harassment for cultivating their own medical cannabis as long as no money is exchanged, but cannabis dispensaries and members are not afforded that same protection. Joining a co-op or dispensary is a legal risk, though so far patient members have not been prosecuted. Once you have your card, you can sign up at any dispensary that accepts that card. Check http://www.canorml.org/ for a list of medical cannabis dispensaries.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA ADVOCATE RECEIVES TOO MUCH PUBLICITY

The Auburn Journal not only published another Kubby pot story, you published a guest column by him, Journal, July 22.

I checked Google and there are 462 items that come up which include both the Auburn Journal and Steve Kubby. His column shows that in Canada a person can have two pounds per month. How many plants does it take to reap one pound? He was caught with 265 plants in Placer County. Would Canada allow this?

I have written on this particular subject a number of times as I feel it is a disservice to the community to keep trying to force-feed the legalization of pot. Pot is no different from cigarettes when it comes to lung disease. If it is legal, then the misled individuals that are smoking it will have a venue for a lawsuit against companies that distribute the product.

Quick look at Dr. Steve Kubby case.. Dentist, wife grossing over $500,000 per year. In Placer County California there are no "County" Medical Cannabis guidelines. Therefore, Placer County guidelines fall under those of SB 420: "guidelines protect patients from arrest provided they cultivate no more than 6 mature plants and possess no more tham 8 onces of dried marijuana." SB420

"Counties and cities are authorized to establish higher (but not lower) guidelines if they wish." SB420

With that in mind, and Dr. Kubby seemed to have the resources and one would think, the "smarts" to do a little homework.. and move WEST, go to SF area, go to Sonoma County ( DA's guidelines permit 3 lbs for pocession; maximum 100 sq. feet cultivation with 99 plants or fewer. Physicians may recommend more for exceptional patients.. CAnorml, local policies).

But NOOOOOO, Dr. Kubby has to take on "cityhall" so to speak, you never win.. too many egos at stake.
DOC, what are you smoking? Du-oh..

Good luck in Canada, you are just the type with the right "moral turpetude" to fit right in.

So let's see.. the Good Doc, in need of medicinal cannabis, plants 265 medicinal cannabis plants (.. I know, no one has ever died of an overdose but really..).

Let's just ASSUME for one minute the Good Dr, aside from taking care of his medical cannabis needs, perhaps had another motive.. let's do the math.. 265 plants @ 1.5 lb yeild/plant @ $3000/lb = $1,192,500 (conservatively)

One million, one hundred ninety-two thousand five hundred american dollars..
..cures what ails ya..
