Had great success with auto as they don't require such large pots to support them. I grow mine outside and they worked out great.

The butter knife is a good idea.. I use gloves handling seeds just in case even after washing hands as the soap could contaminate them. Have nice tweezers to pick them up gently but the BK sounds good.

I had the same issue, had several big one but not big enough pots. Now my solution is different then more space and pots. I grow auto flower outside, takes up less space and killer dense fruits! Easier to take care for my wife who can't tend to them full time when I'm out of town working...
