black sappy bumps

I was hoping someone out here might know what the hell these are, they are like tiny junior mints stuck on the main stem from the dirt going up, when I pull them off they are like tree sap very sticky. Not living bug so lost as to what they are. Any help? I have since taken the mother plant down...
