176 Medical Marijuana Centers In Colorado Springs

With Wednesday night's deadline having passed, the city has released its final medical marijuana numbers: 176 MMCs, 204 optional grow licenses and 71 infused-products licenses registered, for a total of 451 MMJ licenses and $225,000 generated in fees.

"No new medical marijuana businesses will be allowed to begin operations in the City until both the City and state have developed their licensing and regulatory legislation," the release notes.

Shortly after the deadline, Tanya Garduno of the Colorado Springs Medical Cannabis Council sent out an upbeat e-mail.

"I wanted to shoot out a note congratulating everyone who has made it through this first of many milestones. The phones over here have been ringing off the hook, and I'm sure you have all been very busy as well.

At $500 per [application], that equals $225,500. I'm sure that is more than the city was anticipating but should very much fund the start of setting up the infrastructure needed to regulate the industry.

Again, I wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
