Hollister City Council members Thursday are set to host a public hearing on a proposed medicinal marijuana ordinance that would allow pot dispensaries here for the first time since 2010.

The hearing is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St., in downtown Hollister.

Council members in June voted 4-0 in support of moving ahead on further research for a local Medicinal Marijuana Administrative Ordinance. It allowed the city manager to put out a request for proposals from firms to analyze prospective city costs from such a local law before council members are set to consider the ordinance for final adoption, expected in August.

The city's move comes in response to the state Legislature last fall approving a trio of bills that regulate the industry. Hollister has banned dispensaries by local ordinance since early 2010.

The city hadn't posted an agenda for the special meeting as of Tuesday and is required to do so within 24 hours of the scheduled gathering.
