Cannabis Candidate To Stand In Auckland Central

Current Party president Kevin O'Connell is to challenge Auckland voters for the seat of Auckland Central, saying "If prohibition is intended to assist in the wellbeing and protection of citizens, the current drug laws in NZ do exactly the opposite."

A relatively experienced campaigner for cannabis law reform and environmental issues, Mr O'Connell says a healthy 'legal' status for cannabis in NZ is long overdue.

R18 regulated is the legal status where cannabis belongs - along with alcohol and tobacco - ensuring 'Not cool in school', de-glamorised, de-mystified, free of pernicious double standards, and the black market gateway to methamphetamine well and truly closed.

Cannabis does not need to be smoked for its recreational and medicinal effects. It can be consumed as a herb, or in a capsule, or as a tincture, and there is great food value in the seed.

"I believe I can win the trust and acceptance of most Aucklanders by advocating truth and tolerance and a wiser use of taxpayers' 'enforcement' money."

"In general, I would describe myself as a vegetarian, environmentalist, law reformer, technician, sometime musician, and carpentry trainee (Southern Institute of Technology)."
