A study in Australia says almost one in five parents think it's acceptable
for their children to try cannabis.

Seventeen per cent of parents asked about their kids and drugs agreed with
the statement: "Experimentation with marijuana is OK".

The research also found 40% of teenagers have been offered the drug.

Twenty per cent of teenagers were also prepared to accept the offer of a
joint or a bong from friends.

Parents finding cannabis acceptable said they would be concerned if
teenagers began trying other drugs like Ecstasy and speed.

The figures are part of a major Federal Government study into drug use,
reports the Sydney Herald-Sun.

The survey of 1,800 parents and more than 600 young people aged 12 to 17
was commissioned to test the effectiveness of the government's anti-drug ad
campaign.

The study also found parents seemed overly optimistic about their
children's approach to drugs - 2% felt their children would take ecstasy.
