The Detroit Police Department is planning on big crack down on medical marijuana dispensaries that aren't following the rules.
FOX 2 watched as Dez Lloyd was able to walk into dispensary after dispensary empty handed and leave with medical marijuana edibles that under state law and Detroit ordinances are illegal.
This was just one of a number of rules some dispensaries seem to break with impunity. Lloyd said they give "potrepreneurs" who play by the rules a bad rap.
"They said until they see it in black and white, they're going to do what they want to do," Lloyd said.
Detroiters like Hazel Floudd said they're ruining the quality of life in northwest Detroit.
"If that's what you want to do, do it in your house," she said.
Detroit's marijuana ordinance went into effect March 1. Right now, there are about 200 known marijuana marts in the Motor City -- 133 have applied to be on Detroit's roll but when the smoke clears, only a handful will be.
Police have not launched an extensive crackdown on pot shops that fall outside the legal lines, yet.
"On April 1, as soon as that application deadline has finished, the Detroit Police Department, along with the Building, Safety and Engineering Department, are going to be working in teams, tandem," said City Attorney Melvin "Butch" Hollowell. "So we'll be able to do those inspections and enforce the law."
